Congratulations to 19 year old Tamlyn Thomas for being included in the under 21 Junior South African beach volleyball team along with her playing partner, Manana Mosia. They will be heading to Mozambique over the weekend where they will be competing to qualify for the World Juniors Beach Volleyball Championships. She says that she is excited about the trip and will be playing to the best of her ability.
Last year, Tamlyn was part of the UWC Volley Ball team that claimed their 4th successive title in the Varsity Beach Volley Ball championships. They beat the University of Pretoria 33-29 in the final round. Tamlyn was included in the University Sport South Africa team early in 2016 and she was part of the UWC team that went to represent South Africa at the Zone VI Volleyball Club Championships in Namibia. She also represented South Africa at the African Youth Games in Botswana.
Tamlyn, who is a first year BA student at the University of the Western Cape, credits her coach for advising her to pursue volleyball. She was a sprinter like her twin sister, Tamzin, but Elmien saw Tamlyn’s potential and convinced her to switch to volleyball.
With the support of their parents, both Tamlyn and Tamzin have a very structured and disciplined lifestyle, which allows them very little time to socialize. Juggling both sports and studies, the twins watch what they eat and do not go to parties. Their schedule during the week only consists of studying and training.
